The fellas are back from vacation and have lots to catch up on! Jon recently returned from Europe. He bravely transformed into "vacation Jon," embracing the holiday spirit by not stressing about money and being ready to spend "enchanted money," despite usually being more frugal. He even endured intense cycling in Mallorca and had a run-in (kinda) with Obi-Wan.
Meanwhile, Dave took his own family to Trail West, a Young Life camp in Buena Vista Colorado, describing it as a resort experience focused on family bonding, conveniently without televisions in the rooms. They also delved into their kids' music tastes. Dave, ever the music enthusiast, admitted to running a "regime" in his car, making his kids listen to '90s R&B and hip-hop. He uses these car rides as teaching moments for music history. They also dive deep on getting your teenager their first phone.

Guilty pick this week - my shows at 3rd and Lindsley here in Nashville are THIS WEEKEND! A reminder: I’m playing Brother, Bring the Sun in it’s entirety on Friday night, and What We Want, What We Get on Saturday night in it’s entirety—both nights with a full band. Just got done with rehearsal today and it was a BLAST. And the band is SO good.
The band (L to R): Cort Clement, Ben Shive, DB, Jared Kneale, Matt Pierson, and Ed Cash
It’s so fun remembering these songs and playing them again - a few like “Prayers of the Saints” and “The Inbetween”, though i haven’t played them in a decade or more, felt so familiar so quickly. And a few I’ve never actually played live EVER like “You Do the Same For Me”—so so so fun.
ANNNNNNND - Jon is also playing the show, so, c’mon!
Excited to see yall there!
There’s something about how simple the chord progression and chorus melody is that always drew me in. It’s just one of those songs that’s not just fun and easy to sing, but I think is really fun and easy to listen to also!” -Dave
What I'm Listening to...
Lake Stree Dive’s "Hypotheticals"
I think I first heard of Lake Street Dive when I was out on the road with Ben Rector back in 2014. I absolutely fell in love with their sound. It felt throw-back to me but in a really fresh way. I do feel quite old saying "but in a really fresh way" but I'm also old enough that I'm not going to spend the time trying to think of some other way to say it. So...
So fast forward to 2025 and I'm still listening to LSD (that's just a quick and fresh way to say Lake Street Dive) on a regular basis. One of their hooooooookiest songs is the song "Hypotheticals". I dare you to listen to it and not love it.
Go ahead.
I dare you.

Jon- I looked up Laufey- she IS Icelandic! Jon, she won Iceland's Got Talent?! And she played viola AND SANG at the same time with the Icelandic Symp Orchestra!? And your kids and young adults LOVE HER?! Her voice is beautiful and she is singing many old songs- and she is so jazzy. Reminds me a bit of Angelina Jordan who is a jazz great at 19. Check her out. But wow. This is something I NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED would attract kids. They sit and listen to her sing and don't scream til it's over!?
Want to keep voting for Jon and Dave's dads! Let's go!
