Bree Burks never intended to be a children's author. She started as a bedside nurse and soon moved into medical research in addition to being a hospital administrator. Currently, she's the VP of Strategy for Site Solutions for Veeva Systems—and the author of 'Delight in Your Hue: The Creator Painted You.' It's a book that encourages early conversations about race that was inspired by Bree's adoption story.

“Why”, you ask?

Numerous reasons.

1. The song is out now, so you can go listen NOW whereas when I posted last week you couldn’t.

2. It’s a song that needs to be heard. Hence the double down.

3. The Shadowboxers not only wrote this song with me, but also sing on this song with me too. And I can’t remember if I said that the first time.

4. It’s hard out in these streets for artists. Don’t hate the hustle.

5. It’s a really fun dance number great for this time of year.

This week’s pick is less of a pick and more of an invitation/cry for help.

About a year and a half ago a friend of mine was trying to get anyone and everyone to join him in doing a short-sprint triathlon just outside of Nashville. I said a firm “no” because:

A) I was happy playing tennis everyday and had no interest in a triathlon and

B) I didn’t even own a bike (or goggles or bike shorts, etc).

But finally I ended up borrowing my sister’s bike, doing the triathlon and since then I have been hooked. My obsession has escalated quickly to the point that I just signed up to do a full Ironman in Tempe AZ on 11/16/25. So if anyone wants to get crazy and join me we could make this a Dadville outing!
